What good advice could you give to someone who has got a cold? Can you find out any good (and interesting or unusual) ways of helping someone to get rid of their cold?

Once again, there were a wealth of great answers that came in this week. Some of you have sent in some remedies I would try at home, as for others... well, decide for yourself...

A toad on your head for a headache.
Chilli under your nose for a blocked nose.
Seaweed around your neck for a sore throat.
Mustard on your chest for a cough.
Put lemon in boiling hot water and put your head in it [not in the lemon, presumably? - Mr C.] (from Connor - Year 4)

When someone has a cold, I would advise them to drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration and take paracetamol to keep their fever down. There are so many remedies for colds these days. Warm milk with honey or warm lemonade is good. Also a cup of very hot water with Vicks is good. Then place a towel over your head and inhale the menthol vapours. Keep warm and sweat it out of you. (from Shaun - Year 3)

1. Take a Lemsip and drinks and stay in bed.
2. Catnip leaves. Add a teaspoonful of honey and drink.
3. Take a hot tea with whisky and lemon [but not for you lot doing The Challenge I presume! - Mr C.].
4. A Japanese cure for colds is to drink a garlic and rice wine solution.
5. Fisherman's Friends will soothe sore throats and clear you nose. (from Jamie - Year 3)

To cure a cold: rub your chest with camphorated oil and mustard, slap some on your back and tie a smelly sock around your throat. The shock will cure your cold! (from Conal -Year 3)
