Challenge Question set 18/03/05

Back to

A few weeks ago, my literacy class were asked to write a poem about snow for their homework. I received many fantastic poems back (which, if I had time, I would have put on this website!). The snow will not caome again (probably!) and Spring is approaching fast. I would like you to write your own poem about spring. You can talk about the buds bursting, the animals awakening, the days warming, the early daylight, the plants growing, the flowers blossoming... and so on! Tips for a great poem: include some interesting adjectives (describing words); use a simile or two if you can (something is like something else); try to use your senses (it sounds like..., it smells...). It is your choice if you would like it to rhyme and/or set out in verses. I am looking forward to creating our Poets Page already! Remember - you have loads of time to do this.

From these poems, I can tell that spring is already here. We'll ignore the snow that we had in the early days of April...! You have written some great poems and I'm sure that everyone will enjoy this poets page.

Spring has sprung
The daffodils are growing tall
Green and yellow.
The lambs are jumping in the meadow
The birds are tweeting, building their nests high in the trees
The grass has been mown for the first time
The sun is out
The children are running about smiling
Laughing

(from Louis - Year 3)

  Early in the morning
Spring had came
Flower buds popped
And no more rain

Summer soon will come
With paddling pools
And it's really hot
Soon it will be winter
When it's nice and cold

(from Rachel - Year 4)

Spring is the time when
Parks, gardens and countryside are starting to blossom again
Rabbits are back hopping around once more, the Easter bunny knocks at your door
It will not rain any more endless hours, that's if we avoid the April showers
Night time seems far away as children get to play, daylight won't go away
Gone are the dull, damp and cold winter days the wild animals can get back to their old ways

(from Conal - Year 3)

Lambs are born and jumping in the fields
Birds are singing, nesting in the trees
Plants are growing big, strong and tall
This is the time of year
That comes to please us all

(from Jack - Year 4)

At last spring is here!
The fresh bright sky is
Nice and clear
Animals are waking
As the sun and the clouds are breaking
The sound of the birds singing
Lawnmowers are everywhere leaving
My ears ringing

The smell of the fresh cut green grass
Is no longer a thing of the past
Animals appearing out of hibernation
Leaving lots of thoughts to my imagination
Bike rides, long walks out at the park
Having lots of fun before it gets dark
All the long spells of sun and daylight make me tire,
So I'll say goodbye and I'll retire!

(from Shaun - Year 3)

  It's spring
The flowers are blooming and growing
Beautifully
Quickly
Wonderfully
When they bloom they're like a
Breath of new life
I think nature is magnificent

FLOWER POWER!

(from Melissa - Year 4)

Spring is nice not too cold and not too hot
The pink in blossom leaves are like the pink in childrens' cheeks

(from Alice - Year 4)

  Spring time is wonderful
Spring time is great
When little chicks are hatching
The farmer leaves an open gate
Little seeds are sprouting
Little lambs are sweet
Their little legs go wobble
But then they stand up on their feet

(from Emma - Year 4)

Birds building nests out of crumbly leaves
Blossom on trees sway in the breeze
Snowdrops and crocuses all in a line
Daffodils bright and yellow just like the sunshine
At dawn the birds all chirp and sing
And this always means the arrival of spring.

(from Jack - Year 4)

  Spring, spring, spring,
Butterflies fluttering
Everywhere around,
Flowers swaying gently
In the breeze.
Spring, spring, spring.

(from Hannah - Year 4)
