YOU can SAVE the WORLD! "Who, me?" I hear you say. Yes, you! It's true, you can save the world! Ok, perhaps you can't do it single-handed, but you alone can make a difference, and a large number of people together can make a BIG difference. You don't believe me? Ok, here's some examples of how you can SAVE THE WORLD:

SAVE THE WORLD FROM OVERHEATING! We all use electricity, which we (mainly) get from burning coal. Burning coal makes a gas called carbon dioxide. The more of this we have in our air, the warmer our planet The Earth will get. SO, if we use less electricity, we make less carbon dioxide and the world won't heat up as much. We can save electricity by not overfilling kettles, not leaving TV's (etc.) on standby and switching off all unwanted lights. (This saves us money too!) Did I mention the energy-saving light bulbs...?
SAVE THE WORLD FROM SADNESS! Smile. It's good for you, it's infectious and it makes others feel great. Imagine if everyone smiled and meant it!
SAVE THE WORLD'S FORESTS! Paper is made from trees. Having lots of trees is great because they use carbon dioxide - hey! Didn't we just mention that? If we reduce the amount of paper we use, or reuse paper on both sides, or at least recycle what paper we can, we save trees who are good for us in so many ways...!
SAVE... Ok. It's your turn! Tell me about how YOU CAN SAVE THE WORLD!

You are all superheroes! You must be, as you have told me loads of ways that you can actually SAVE THE WORLD! It almost makes me think that if you lot can save the world so easily, why does it take adults so long to catch up with you? That's almost a seperate Challenge...

Save the world's starving people by spending £5.00 less each week on food, save it up and donate it to charity. (from Jack - Year 4)

SAVE THE WORLD FROM LITTER
Get people who drop litter on the floor to pick it up and put it in the bin. Get people to recycle as much as possible. Make prisoners pick up the litter to help them get some exercise. (from Jack - Year 4)

(from Melissa - Year 4)

Recycle all of our paper, glass, plastic and tins. Recycle waste in a compost bin to put back on the garden to make the earth better. (from Hannah - Year 4)

I think I could save the world by giving the world peace and giving respect to the world. (from Louis - Year 3)

Do you know Louis, I totally agree with you. This is something that everyone could do. It wouldn't really cost them any time and often it wouldn't cost them a single penny! In fact, it costs us a lot if we don't do this. That respect you mention - that would be a great thing to have more of, don't you think? - Mr C.
