Bob's introduction to his Maths Dictionary

This page has big plans to grow. You can help it by telling me what you think about my explanations so far. Can you make any of them better? Can you spot any mistakes? What else do you think this page should have? You can drop a note to Mr C. who will pass it on to me.

Why did I write this page? Well, maths (or numeracy as some call it) is full of words which can leave you a bit confused. Which word and method do you use for what thing? Even after looking them up in a dictionary, you can still feel as confused as you did before. Because of this, I decided to explain a few of these words in my own 'Bob Speak' sort of way. It's like a revision guide, especially for the Year 4's my friend Mr C. teaches.

How To Use This Maths Dictionary Site:

To begin, click on the first letter (or number or symbol) of the word (or, again, number or symbol) you want to find out about. A list of words beginning with that letter (or, yup, you've got it, number or symbol) will appear in the box on the bottom left.

Then click on the word (or, you'll never guess, number or symbol) that you want to find out about. It's definition will appear on the box on the right.

But you may want more!

Well, you can have it, if it is there. By the side of each definition is a smiley face. If it smiles even more when you move your mouse over it , there's more! Click on it and find out what's there. There could be photos, examples that show you how it's all worked out, examples of work, stories, poems, ideas...
