The plants are pressed between two sheets of paper, which in turn are placed between two sheets of card. These are then piled up with a wooden lattice at the bottom of the pile. It is important to label the samples correctly with its name, date and interview reference. Here I can be seen labelling a sample before adding it to the pile. When the pile is ready, I will place the top wooden lattice (by the side of the chair) on the pile and press the lattices together using rope or special tighteners. Img.26.3 - When I began in Tihosuco I was fortunate to have many chairs where I was staying, which facilitated arranging and pressing the samples. But after a couple of months, they were reclaimed (long story!) and I had to suffice with a single table. Thanks to Suzy Clark (no relation) for this photo. |
