The Pond

Holiday Growth

During the long summer holiday, the grass and weeds have had their chance to take over the pond area, and they've taken it! The plants have mostly finished flowering and some plants now have bright berries on them, such as the Pyracantha you can see to the left.

Go, Go, Grow!

As if to prove that no children have walked up and down these steps for over 4 weeks, this field bindweed is making a break for it across the path. Will it reach the other side before the children return? It will be gone as soon as the herds of children start back at school and trample it under many pairs of feet.

The Pond Forest

Rising up like some prehistoric forest above flat, green, grassy plains, the ferny pondweed pokes out bove the common duckweed below which smothers the pond surface.

Anybody there?

I cleared away a section of the common duckweed to see what life I could find below. I saw a couple of pond snails, a few shrimps looking insects, but no sign what-so-ever of the tadpoles. They must have turned into frogs by now and left. Pondskaters flitted across the surface od the pond.

Still Here

The old pond has still got a lot of water in, so who knows what could still be living there. Have some of the frogs returned to this pond? I heard nothing and saw no movement when I went there. What is lurking beneath the green surface...?
