The Garden View

The Garden is filling out. Most of the area is planted up now and so we can leave it for the summer. The Honesty forests still need to be cleared, but we can leave them for the moment. The Poached-Egg patches are very impressive but will soon die down. These will make way for the vegetables to grow.

We Bought These!

One of the first purchases with the Gerden Club money was these plastic roses which, when you screw them on to the top of a used 2 litre drink bottle, turns it into a watering can! No more going backwards and forwards with one watering can, as we can take loads of these out at once and have loads of people watering at once. Not to mention the recycling of bottles... etc.

A Mini-Garden Hippo Inspects

The Mini-Garden Hippo is always there to check up on what's happening in the gerden. Here, he was snapped observing how the Runner Beans were growing (very well thank you!). The last I was of him was when he was heading off to the Honesty forest. I get the impression he wants it cleared...

Still Ravishing

...and here it is! The first harvested radish. It's almost past its best, but it was one of the bigger ones. They are ready to go now. See Mr C. and the gardening club for more details...

How Fast Will This Grow?

This plant will grow at the speed of a, er, rocket. Well, its name is Rocket and was a present from some friends who live near Mr C. in Leicester. The question is - will we be able to eat it before the beetles get it, or who ever ate it last year? Mind you, I saw a rabbit on our vegetable patch today. Will he/she get it first?

We May Not Be Big Just Yet...

These sunflowers have settled in well and are now thinking of growing upwards at a fast rate. I wonder if they will beat the over 3 metre giants of 2 years ago? I had better put canes by them and tie them up, just in case any strong winds try to spoil their plans.

Sweet and Strong

These Sweetcorn plants are looking well. The Spinach behind them (Pop-eye used to eat spinach, which seemed to make him strong) also look healthy. But I've just had a thought. The sweetcorn plants look like grass. I saw a rabbit in here earlier. Rabbits like grass. I think we had better think up some way of protecting them, if they are still there...

They're Getting Bigger and Bigger

The onions are still growing upwards. If they carry on doing this, I may have to have a quiet word with them and remind them that they are supposed to grow outwards too.

Game Of Tennis Anyone?

The Strawberry plant has grown a lot since the winter. It is full of flowers and what does that mean? Fruit! Hopefully lots of it. Strawberries are a symbol of Wimbledon, the tennis championships. Do you think if I eat enough strawberries that I will be able to play there? I saw a slug practising a few volleys earlier...

Watch Out, Watch Out...

... a Stinger's about. This sneaky stinging nettle hid amongst the Poached-Egg Plants before making a race for the sky. Luckily, we're getting some new gardening gloves, so he will be pulled out very soon. We do not want these spreading throughout the garden.
