It's Filling
Up
The Garden is growing ever greener.
We have just about filled the garden with plants and all they have to
do now is grow in to the space we have given them.

New Gloves
In Use
We spent some of our money on
new gloves (thank you Mrs I. for bringing these in). We still have to
buy more though as when a big crowd go outside to help, we still have
to borrow some gloves from Mrs M.'s Green Club.
Do you remember that pile of
pondweed Mrs S. dragged out from the pond? (See The Pond 09 06 05), well
we thought it would be a great idea to use it as compost for our vegetable
patch. We needed the gloves!

Weeding
The Beans
After filling a bucket with pondweed,
we took it to the veg patch and spread it around the Runner Beans. They
have a lot of growing to do this year so they will need all the food and
help they can get.

|
A Useful
Mulch
We will need to dig the pondweed
in, but for now it can stay on top of the soil. This will help to cover
the surface and stop any new weeds from growing through it. Layers like
these are called mulches, and they help to stop weeds groing and keep
water in the soil.

Get Stuck
In!
Some of the money we raised was
spent on new trowels. The Honesty has grown into a forest and the new
trowels allowed an army of weeders to go in to the garden to dig them
out of the soil. They have a ruler on them so we can measure how deep
we are planting our plants and seeds.
|
| |
|
Devastation!
In just a short time, the army
of weeders had cleared away a lot of the Honesty. The plants that have
been taken out will be left on the soil to dry out and then we can dig
them back in. If we get out too many, we'll take them to the compost heap.

|
Ouch!
With so many people on a small
patch of ground, something was going to get hurt. Luckily, all the garden
volunteers are sensible so it wasn't them, but this poor spinach plant
suffered being trodden on a couple of times. It was lucky it didn't get
in the way of the volunteers' trowels!

Teriffic
Tagetes
These bedding plants came in
from Mrs I., who generously gave them to be sold on for the Gardening
Club to raise more money. She grew them all from seed at home and they've
grown in to fantastic young plants.

Perfect
Petunias
She bought a lot of petunias
in as well. If anyone is interested in buying any of these plants, please
pop in and ask Mr C. about them. Be quick, as a lot of them have either
gone or will be going soon.

Yellow Wonders
We have colours for every garden.
You need yellow, we have yellow. These would add a bright touch to any
garden.
