The Holiday Garden

Amongst his travel around the country and abroad, Mr C. popped in to the school to have a chat with everybody working there and to see how the garden was getting along. To his suprise, loads of people were there! Did they not know it was the holidays? The staff certainly do work hard there!

A Long Chat

The Mini-Garden Hippo was pleased to see me as he had a lot of information to tell me. The summer had been very rainy, without much sun. As a result, the plants hadn't grown as well as expected. However, what had grown was looking very healthy and watered.

Beans Galore!

The Runner Bean plants were looking very thin, compared to what we are used to in the garden. Normally they are a huge, solid, green tower where children can easily get lost inside when searching for beans. A lot of people have had the same problem this year, due to the lack of hot, sunny weather. The plants that were there had already produced their first crop of beans that are ready to be picked.

Mmmm... Sweetcorn!

The Sweetcorn plants were also much smaller that they normally are, but they had a good crop of sweetcorn on them. These will soon be ready to be picked. I did tell Mrs A. about them when I met up with her a few days later to play golf. She was quite excited about what was happening in the garden and looking forward to harvesting her tea!

The Invasion

As ever, the plants that do really well, no matter what the weather is like, are Mr S.'s favourite - the Nasturtiums. They have enkoyed the wet weather and are succeeding in their mission to take over the garden, here blocking a path. Mr S. is no doubt waiting for the Cabbage White caterpillars to come and do their work...

My Other Home

I have spent so much time sitting at this bus stop that you can almost see an indentation in the bench where I have been sitting. This was my job after a long school day - to sit for a long time, staring up the road, hoping that a bus would come. I shall miss many things about the school, but perhaps not the waits at the bus stop, eh?
