Planting Our Plants

Phew! A Breath Of Fresh Air!

The plants were packed tightly in the box, but this helped to stop them from moving around and possibly breaking as they were carried from St Albans to Ratby. We had to be careful and untangle the plants from one another as we took them out for planting. The Geraniums were planted on 18th April by the Gardening Volunteers.

Skilled Work

The volunteers worked hard to get all of the geraniums planted, esopecially as it was done during a lunchtime and we only had half an hour to do the whole lot! Here, some of the volunteers show their good work. We had to take them outside to near the glasshouse to be watered, and then work fast to clear up the classroom before the whistle went at the end of lunch-break!

Here We Go Again!

On Wednesday 20th April, the Garden Volunteers met up again to plant the Petunias. Some of the petunias had already been planted up by a relative of one of the volunteers who had adopted some of the plants.

Planting Is Go, Go, Go!

Planting up the remaining 70 petunias was a commercial operation, where everyone had to work fast and efficiently to get all of the plants potted up, taken outside, watered and then get the classroom cleared up afterwards. As expected, they did it! Walking in a circle around the table, they picked up a pot, half filled it from the blue box of compost, received a plant, filled the plant with compost from the smaller trays, put a lable in it, put it in the pot tray and then started all over again. The volunteers worked hard!

Let's Get Growing

The plants were watered and then put into Mr S.'s glasshouse to grow. These are the plants that are still there, as a number of parents and guardians have agreed to adopt some of the plants to grow on for the May Fayre. Thank you to Lucy, Lorna, Devon, Lucie and Fern (and your families) who have kindly adopted some plants. To all the rest of you who have also helped to date and donated pots etc., thank you too!
